At the express directive of the President and Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), H.E. John Dramani Mahama, a high-level government delegation led by the Deputy Minister of Defence, Hon. Yaw Brogya Genfi, has visited the families of all deceased and the one injured applicant from the Central Region in the recent 2025/2026 GAF recruitment stampede at the El-Wak Stadium.

The delegation included the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection; the Central Regional Minister represented by Hon. Chief Mike Dery, Presidential Staffer at the CRCC; the Central Regional Chairman of the NDC, Noble Dr. Richard Kofi Asiedu; senior officers from the Ministry of Defence and the Ghana Armed Forces; officials from the Ministry of Gender, Children & Social Protection; the Regional Security Council; NADMO Central; concerned MMDCEs; and the MP for ASEC.

During the visit, the Deputy Minister for Defence conveyed government’s decision to offer recruitment opportunities to relatives of the deceased victims, as well as to the injured applicant once full recovery is confirmed and they are declared medically fit for training.
He emphasized the profound grief the State feels over the tragic incident, noting that the government “deeply shares in the pain of the affected families and fully recognizes the magnitude of their loss.” He further assured the families of the State’s unwavering support during this difficult period.
This decision to provide replacement recruitment opportunities forms part of broader efforts to offer relief, restore hope, and demonstrate the government’s solidarity with the grieving families. The delegation reiterated that the nation mourns with the bereaved, stands with the injured, and remains committed to ensuring the safety, dignity, and well-being of all applicants in future recruitment processes.
As customarily done during such outreach, Hon. Chief Mike Dery presented donations on behalf of the government delegation to each family visited.
