NPP Moves to Expel Prof. Frimpong Boateng Over Explosive Channel One TV Interview

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is reportedly taking steps to permanently expel former party stalwart Prof. Frimpong Boateng following controversial remarks he made during a recent media interview.

According to reports from the NPP General Secretary, Mr. Justin Frimpong Kodua, together with some party executives, discussions are underway to officially revoke Prof. Frimpong Boateng’s membership after an interview he granted on Channel One TV on January 12, 2026.

During the interview, Prof. Frimpong Boateng openly criticized the party, describing the NPP as a “fake party.” He further alleged that the 2023 NPP presidential primaries were rigged in favor of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who went on to contest the 2024 general election on the party’s ticket.

Following these comments, the party has reacted strongly. A press statement released on January 13, 2026, is said to have addressed and rejected Prof. Frimpong Boateng’s claims, citing violations of party discipline and code of conduct.

Sources within the party indicate that the leadership is determined to proceed with his expulsion, stressing that actions and statements that undermine party unity will not be tolerated.

As developments unfold, many political observers are closely monitoring the situation, which could have wider implications for internal party cohesion ahead of future political activities.
