AFCON Flashback: Stanley Nwabali’s Heated Reaction After Moroccan Fans Took His Towel

A new video has resurfaced online showing an emotional moment involving Nigeria’s goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, during a past encounter against host nation Morocco.

The incident dates back to when Nigeria faced Morocco during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals. In the video, Nwabali appeared visibly unsettled after his personal towel was taken by some Moroccan fans behind the goalpost.

Before the second half of the match, a member of Nigeria’s technical team was seen handing Nwabali a white towel, which many fans believe symbolized his focus, strength, and confidence going into the remainder of the game.

The goalkeeper used the towel to wipe his hands before placing it behind the goalpost.

Moments later, two Moroccan supporters were captured on video taking the towel and running off with it. When Nwabali noticed that the towel was missing, he reacted angrily toward the fans, expressing his frustration during the tense moment.

The match eventually went to a penalty shootout, where Morocco defeated Nigeria, ending the Super Eagles’ campaign in dramatic fashion.

The resurfaced footage has since sparked discussions online, with fans debating the impact of crowd interference and player psychology in high-pressure matches.
