“Books Over Bets!” — Hon. Queenstar Sawyerr Urges Students to Prioritize Education at Agona East Gaming Commission Launch

In the early hours of today, Queenstar Pokuah Sawyerr, Member of Parliament for the Agona East Constituency and Chairperson of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Local Government and Rural Development, attended the official launch of the Agona East office of the Ghana Gaming Commission.

Addressing attendees at the event, Hon. Sawyerr expressed her appreciation to the Director-General of the Commission for selecting Agona East as one of only three locations nationwide to host a Gaming Commission office. She described the initiative as a significant step toward strengthening regulation and promoting responsible gaming within the constituency.

Despite acknowledging the economic contributions of the gaming industry, Hon. Sawyerr delivered a strong message to young people, urging them to place education above betting.

“Books over bets,” she emphasized, encouraging students to remain focused on their academic pursuits and long-term personal development.

She also noted that gaming is not limited to the youth, pointing out that older individuals participate as well, but stressed the importance of discipline and moderation.

The Director-General of the Ghana Gaming Commission, in his remarks, reinforced the need for responsible betting practices. He reminded the public that only individuals aged 18 and above are legally permitted to engage in gaming activities and highlighted the sector’s contributions to national development through revenue generation and job creation.

The launch of the Agona East Gaming Commission office is expected to improve oversight, ensure compliance with gaming regulations, and promote awareness about responsible gambling within the community.
