Agona East’s Four-Term MP Overlooked? Calls Grow for Appointment of Queenstar Pokuah Sawyerr

Ghana’s political space continues to see discussions around post-election appointments, with some party supporters and political observers expressing concern over certain omissions.

President John Dramani Mahama has received widespread praise from many Ghanaians for his performance and strategic approach to national leadership and appointments so far. However, a section of party faithful, particularly within the Central Region, have voiced disappointment over the absence of Honorable Queenstar Pokuah Sawyerr from the ministerial appointment list.

Hon. Queenstar Pokuah Sawyerr, a four-time Member of Parliament for Agona East, is widely credited by supporters for maintaining the constituency seat for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) across four consecutive election cycles. In the 2024 general elections, she is reported to have secured victory in Agona East by a significant margin, contributing to what supporters describe as a strong presidential vote performance for the NDC in the constituency.

Beyond parliamentary work, party supporters say she has contributed resources, mentorship, and advisory support to parliamentary candidates, particularly female candidates. Many also credit her grassroots mobilization efforts as instrumental in increasing voter turnout for the party in the constituency.

Some party activists are therefore calling on the President to consider her for a future national appointment, citing her long-standing dedication to the party, her constituency, and her role in strengthening political participation, especially among women.

Supporters argue that recognizing such contributions could further strengthen party unity and reward long-term commitment to national service.
