Awal Mohammed Apologizes to Shatta Wale and SM Movement After “Junkies” Comment

Awal Mohammed, a known NPP political activist, has issued a public apology to Ghanaian dancehall icon Shatta Wale and the entire SM Movement following a controversial comment he made on live television.

The incident occurred during a political discussion on Joy News, where Awal Mohammed appeared as a guest on a live political show.

While criticizing the government’s stringent bail conditions, he made a remark referring to Shatta Wale’s fan base, the Shatta Movement (SM), as “junkies”—a statement that quickly sparked backlash across social media.

Following widespread criticism from fans and the general public, Awal Mohammed has acknowledged that his choice of words was inappropriate.

In a public apology, he expressed regret over the comment and admitted that it did not reflect his true character.

He further clarified in a post on his Facebook page that he had no intention of insulting Shatta Wale or the globally recognized SM brand. According to him, the remark was made in error and should not be interpreted as a deliberate attack on the artist or his fan base.

Awal Mohammed therefore appealed to Shatta Wale, the SM family, and the general public to forgive him for the unfortunate comment.
